Special Adjustable floor support systems for terrace floors

Floor Forum International N° 134, December 2023

Profilpas – an innovative look at adjustable pedestals
Profilpas has established itself as a leader in the dynamic world of adjustable pedestals. With Enrico Barison at the head as CEO, the company has not only welcomed a new leader, but also has reinforced its position as part of the Mapei Group. In this inspiring interview with Enrico Barison we discover the history of Profilpas, its core business, and its vision for the future of the industry.

Enrico Barison as the new captain
Enrico Barison has been at the head of Profilpas as managing director since September. In that position he will lead the development of the company in Italy and elsewhere. With his vast experience in resilient and textile floor coverings, he has built up a sharp commercial insight and a sound understanding of the management of entire sales processes, with a specific focus on Southern European countries. ‘I’m curious by nature and working together with colleagues is what gives me energy,’ says Enrico Barison. It is obvious that his passion for the trade and his involvement with the team will play a key part in the growth of Profilpas.

Profilpas – a global reference player
Profilpas has been producing technical profiles and finishes for ceramic tiles, marble, wood, laminate, LVT floors, and even for carpet since 1976. The company started life modestly in a 200m² warehouse in Padova, Italy. Nowadays, Profilpas produces metals and PVC profiles in buildings with a work surface area of over 20,000m². ‘Profilpas sells its products worldwide and to that end can count on 70 employees and three factories with up to 8000 product references. The company has an annual turnover of some 25.5 million euros,’ Enrico Barison adds and refers with pride to the recent integration into the Mapei Group.
The core business of Profilpas is to produce technical and finish profiles for ceramic floors and walls. The mission is to create long-lasting solutions to solve the main installation issues, for example at the most pressurised parts of floors, namely the joints. The firm targets mainly B2B clients like retailers, fitters, agents, and contractors.
‘Our clients appreciate our active presence and our understanding of their needs which enable us to convert these things into products and solutions,’ Enrico Barison adds.

Extensive product range
The extensive assortment includes floor profiles, tile edges, skirting boards, bathroom systems, linear shower channels at floor level, light profiles, and adjustable pedestals for outdoor use. The materials used vary from aluminium, stainless steel, and messing to PVC. Everyone knows that the joints between the different types of floors suffer the most, so Profilpas profiles are developed in such a way as to protect the joints continually.
‘The showcases of our extensive range are the technical and end profiles for ceramic floors and wall furnishings and our adjustable pedestals,’ says Enrico Barison, who refers to the versatility of the adjustable pedestals for elevated outdoor floors. For instance, PP level ranges consist of several types of adjustable pedestals for various sorts of outdoor floors. Profilpas also takes account of the type of floor and offers profiles and bearers for floors such as LVT floors, parquet, laminate, wooden terrace floors, and tiles.

PP Level DUO MAXI – the latest offspring in the Profilpas family
The recent launch of PP Level DUO MAXI, a series of adjustable floor pedestals for outdoor elevated floors, provides good evidence of the ongoing innovation of Profilpas. With accessories for all installation needs and excellent resistance to pressure and the weather, this new sort of adjustable pedestal promises simple, speedy, and perfect installations. ‘With PP Level DUO MAXI, you can install elevated floors faster, more easily, and with greater comfort,’ Enrico Barison explains.
This adjustable pedestal consists of a head, a screw, and a base. It is available in several versions from 10mm up to a height of even 320mm and can compensate slopes up to 5%.
The development of the adjustable pedestal sector – this is about profiles industry in general, we are not talking about pedestals here
The sector has made great strides over the last 10 years. The emphasis is now on customised work and innovative digital print technology, which simplify the integration of accessories with surfaces.
‘In the next few years, we expect that with Mapei we can offer full installation systems,’ Enrico Barison predicts. ‘In fact, we’re one of the few manufacturers of dynamic joints for LVT click floors.’

Sustainability and socially responsible enterprise
Enrico Barison stresses that sustainability is primarily a mindset which starts with workers themselves and has to be integrated into production processes. The Profilpas research and development department works every day to obtain raw materials from sustainable processes. In this way the company contributes to the reusable supply chain with metals and thermoplastics. ‘All our products can easily be identified at the end of their lifespan for dismantling and reuse,’ Mr Barison explains.
Anyone who wants to know more about the corporate philosophy and the product range of items such as adjustable pedestals can visit the Profilpas stand, together with Mapei, during Myplant & Garden. This show takes place in Milan from 21 to 24 February 2024. "We’re committed to being present at leading trade fairs in order to present our innovations,’ Enrico Barison says.
Profilpas is a dynamic company which exhibits dedication, has a progressive philosophy in aspects such as sustainability, and is a worldwide reference player in the adjustable pedestal sector.
