During the six-week summer vacation, all work was carried out to equip the school building for the new requirements. The staircase presented a particular challenge. Not only did a new handrail have to be installed, but the stair treads needed more safety and clear marking to minimize the risk of tripping and slipping for visually impaired children. The installation company Werminghaus advised the school to use the Küberit stair nosing profile 530 for several reasons.

Visualized safety
Whether the visually impaired students are going up or down the stairs, they must always be able to clearly perceive the steps. Only then can the danger of falling be excluded. Therefore, the Küberit stair nosing profile 530 with predetermined bending point, 70 mm width and grooved tread edge is ideal for these special requirements. It is also important that they are generously dimensioned along the stair tread with a width of 50 mm. As there are no statutory color specifications and in order for the aluminum profiles to fulfill their signal effect, they still had to be effectively powder-coated. Thanks to the profiles, all stair nosings at the Norbert School now shine in bright RAL 1026 fluorescent yellow.

Assembly: reliable and uncomplicated
The Küberit stair nosing profiles 530 are delivered already drilled. With lengths of 1 meter, 2.50 meters and 5 meters they can also be installed on wide stairs without joint edges. This further increases safety by avoiding additional tripping hazards. Torx screws with a diameter of 3.5 mm ensure reliable installation on the level, hard, dry and load-bearing steps.

1. We perceive up to 80 percent of all impressions with the eye and thus process much more information in a very short time than with the other senses. For visually impaired people, this means: the more prominent, the better. Starting this school year there has been an integration class at the Norbert School and that is why all the stair nosing profiles at the school are now bright yellow.
2. The 70 mm wide, grooved tread edges and the 50 mm wide joint edges offer ideal conditions for meeting the increased requirements. In combination with the powder coating in RAL color 1026 Fluorescent Yellow, they are easily recognizable for visually impaired people.
